It was curious how she could fear him and fear for him at the same time. Fear him – because his gender alone granted him the power to live while his sisters were murdered in utero. Fear for him – because he would bear the burden of this terrifying legacy and be expected to carry it forward
How true, I mean he has to live with it. Very well written Meera.
Yup, he does although I wonder if such survivors ever feel guilty
Superb. Need I say anything more? And what a perspective. I mean we always talk about those who were denied the chance to live. And for once we see someone who has to live with the burden of being allowed to live.
I’m not sure if survivors feel the guilt. I think, too often, they are raised with a sense of entitlement that they deserve to be on earth. That is why they probably perpetrate the crime
Agree with Sudha about thinking of the other one who is equally if not more affected. Powerful words, Meera.
We need to inculcate a sense of guilt in such survivors, that may prevent them from carrying the legacy forward
Well although i agree with your view .. but i dont think we shud fear for him as he has to live .. good may he live for long long time with all the guilt and repent each day without being pardoned…
I’d love to think that what you’ve said is what happens to the survivor. yet, that is not true. Most of them grow up believing they are superior and hence have earned the right to live. We need to make them aware and sensitive of the heavy price paid in order for them to live. That sensitivity will make them better human beings for sure.
Mindblowing word play! I am grateful to Saru fro bringing me here, Meera.
Hello Panchali and welcome to the blog. Saru is very kind in her praise of me, as are you. I am glad you liked my 55 fiction. Do keep coming.
